I was scrolling through Instagram, hunting for things about which I could get excited (few and far between in these dark days), when I came across a marvelous, blurry painting that looked like the reflection of a scene. I discovered this wonder was painted by Cuban artist Diango Hernández. The wavy work is part of what he calls Olaismo, a visual language he says is inspired by waves, migration, and memory. The work turns out to be quite timely as well, since his most prevalent themes are that of exile, political change, and cultural identity.
“Waves are the language of the sea. A language that can be used for painting, for creating images of a more fluid world, a world without rigidity a liquid world.”
You can see more of Diango Hernández’s thought-provoking paintings on his Olaismo website and on Instagram, and you can purchase his work through the Wizard Gallery website.
