Weird Time for a Joke
I don’t want to make light of MLK Day. It’s an important day, and it’s really important to me, but try as I might, I didn’t feel qualified to write a post about the man who has come to represent so much to so many. I understand that race relations, like most hot-button issues, are on a pendulum and are bound to swing backward once in a while. But this year, it feels like we’ve been spending more time swinging back than forward, and I worry that we are letting the great man down.
However, I didn’t want to let the day go by without acknowledging him, so here’s a joke he told on The Tonight Show in 1968. It’s very him.
Make Mine Mini!!
Remember Lorraine Loots and the Very Young Eyes? Well, we weren’t the only ones charmed by her beautiful diminutive works. Her adorable mini-painting-every-day project has inspired another very talented artist to do her own 365-day tiny painting project, with similarly darling results. Continue reading

Disclaimer: Okay, yes, maybe I have been posting a bit more than usual about cats lately, but I also post about dogs, and chickens, and guinea pigs, and ducks, and horses, and other animals. This is proof that I am not becoming a crazy cat lady. That is my story, and I’m sticking to it. Continue reading

Birthplace of Rock:
Merry Swiftmas!
I’m going to be brief because so many news outlets have already covered this story. I just wanted to be sure that my readers didn’t miss this sweet story about Taylor Swift.
So the queen of adorbs started cyber-stalking a number of her fans this year, reading details about their lives and what they liked on their social media accounts, then she went shopping and bought them holiday presents. She wrapped and packed the presents herself, and in one case, even delivered them in person. If this is an act, she’s seriously committed to the bit.

Karl Lagerfeld’s Other Career
You may recall that in December, I wrote about the bit of film confection that Karl Lagerfeld put together in connection with last year’s Métiers d’Art collection. Unbeknownst to me, he’s done it before! Continue reading
